The Finnish Fish Farmers' Association - Supervision of interests since 1964

Activities

The objective of the supervision of interests is to protect the operational conditions of aquaculture and at the same time to ensure the supply of fish in the Finnish food production.

Members

The association offers its members education and counselling as well as informs regularly the producers about production and market situations.

General supervision of interests

The association promotes the interests of fish farmers by issuing statements and introducing in various working teams the problems and requirements of development in the field. For example, the association is represented in the development group of aquaculture appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The group deals with the bureaucracy of licences concerning this trade, policy of environmental licences, fish markets, situation of diseases and allocating the investment subsidies among other things.

Research and projects

The association is also represented in research and development projects concerning production engineering, quality and environmental issues in aquaculture.

International activities

The association is actively involved in international organizations, for example a member of the Federation of European Aquaculture. The association participates in the preparatory work of aquacultural affairs in the EU, for example through workgroups in the Advisory Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture and the workgroup of aquaculture of Copa-Cogeca (European farmers and agri-cooperatives).

Other international connections are being created continuously. In summer 2011 the association will make an occupational study trip to France. The intention is to get acquainted with French education of fishing industry and aquaculture. In addition, a different form of aquaculture will also be presented, i.e. the French oyster culture. Read more about the trip in Kalankasvattaja-Fiskodlaren.

Communication

The association informs actively its members about reforms, changes, examination results, education and vacancies that are related to aquaculture. Information is delivered through e-mail and letters. Furthermore, information concerning our field is being gathered and updated on the website. The association also issues a trade and membership magazine Suomen Kalankasvattaja-Fiskodlaren.
